Student Loan Process

To be eligible for student loan(s) at Windward Community College (WCC), follow the steps below:

  1. Students interested in borrowing a loan through the government, Federal Direct Loan, must complete the Financial Aid Application or FAFSA (FAFSA must be complete with NO outstanding requirements), the Federal Direct Student Loan Request Form, online Direct Loan Entrance Counseling (required each academic year), the online Master Promissory Note (required only once at WCC), and if students have loan eligibility.  Follow the instructions carefully, as Incomplete or Incorrect forms will NOT be accepted or processed.  The deadline to submit the completed Federal Direct Student Loan Request Form to the WCC Financial Aid Office is two weeks before the end of the Fall semester (for Fall/Spring loans) or two weeks before the end of the Spring semester (for Spring only loans).  Student loans cannot be processed once the semester has ended.
  2. Students must also be in a Financial Aid eligible degree/program.  Please Click Here to view the eligible degrees/programs at WCC.
  3. Students must be enrolled for a minimum of 6 credits each semester to be eligible for a student loan. Please be sure that the credits you registered for count towards your current degree/major at Windward CC. Courses that are outside of your current degree/major will NOT count (not eligible) for Financial Aid funding. Please visit the Course Program of Study (CPoS) website for more information
  4. Must complete an online Master Promissory Note (MPN) only Once at WCC.  Please see below for instructions.
  5. Must also complete an online Loan Entrance Counseling for WCC each academic year that you borrow a student loan.  Please see the instructions below to complete the online Master Promissory Note (if need be) and the online Loan Entrance Counseling online at https://studentaid.gov.

Your loan funds should be disbursed by the school approximately 2 weeks after (or right before the start of the semester) you have completed the Loan Request Form, the online Master Promissory Note (MPN), and the online Loan Entrance Counseling.

If you are a freshman student and first-time borrower, you are NOT eligible for your loan fund(s) until 30 days after the semester begins.
