Special Covid-19 Update:

The WCC Testing Center has implemented “WCC Proctors for Me,” which provides virtual accommodations testing, make-up testing, and retesting proctoring via Zoom by WCC Testing Center Staff. Staff will verify student identity via picture ID, provide verbal and written instructions, as well as monitor students’ testing via Zoom technology.  In addition to online proctoring, the Testing Center will also provide limited in-person testing.

Students may book online and in-person  proctored test appointments via STAR Balance.  For instructions check out our How to Book Testing Center Appointments document.

Course Testing Details:

  • Course testing is currently only available for accommodation testing, make-up testing, and retesting
  • Appointments via STAR Balance must be made at least 96 hours (4 days) in advance. The student will receive an email with their Zoom session link after making an appointment
  • One-on-One online proctoring appointments will consist of one student and one Testing Center proctor
  • In-person proctoring appointments may accommodate up to 8 students at a time
  • Testing appointments are 90-minutes: 75 minutes for testing and 15 minutes for providing instructions and troubleshooting technical Issues. Instructors may need to adjust tests to accommodate the 75-minute testing window
  • Paper tests will should be converted to an online format (i.e. Laulima, Canvas or Pearson) to be proctored
  • Testing will be for WCC courses only. Proctoring of non-WCC tests is currently suspended

Placement Testing Details:

Accuplacer Placement:

  • The WCC Testing Center offers in-person Accuplacer Placement Testing for math and English.  The student will receive an email with their Zoom session link after making an appointment
  • Accuplacer is free to students for their first attempt. Accuplacer retakes are $25.00 and must be paid prior to testing. Please contact the Testing Center for more details
  • Placement Appointments via STAR Balance must be made at least one week in advance
  • Up to 5 students may be proctored at a time per staff member
  • Testing appointments are 120 minutes (2 hours), but placement testing is limited to 105 minutes (1 hour and 45 minutes)
  • When booking their appointment via STAR Balance, students should indicate their UHID number and which section(s) they will be taking: the math section and/or the writing section

EdReady Placement:

  • The UH System has implemented the use of EdReady as an un-proctored alternative to the Accuplacer placement test.
  • Students can take the EdReady test at any time 
  • EdReady placement scores will be uploaded into the UH system on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays

Important for students:

  • Students will need to show a valid picture ID (school or government-issued) to the test proctor at the beginning of the ZOOM testing session
  • Students will need to know their LMS (e.g. Laulima, Canvas, Pearson) username and password, as well as the course, instructor’s name, and the type of test (chapter, midterm, etc.)
  • Students who arrive late to their testing appointment may have reduced testing time
  • No test breaks are allowed

The Windward Community College Testing Center is located in Hale La’akea 228 and provides the following test proctoring services on a walk-in basis for:

  • Placement tests
  • Distance Education online and written tests
  • Make-up tests and retests for campus courses

These services are free to all UH System students, and for a fee, to non-UH System students and private organizations. Please email the Testing Center Coordinator at wccdet@hawaii.edu to submit a request for test proctoring for non-UH System exams. The proctor contact information we provide should be sent to the person responsible for sending the test instructions at your college.

Test Proctoring Information

  • A valid photo ID is required for all services
  • A UH student ID number is required for placement testing
  • Only instructor-authorized equipment/materials may be used
  • Testing is monitored and recorded
  • The use of a cell phone, electronic devices, and unauthorized materials is not allowed and any incident of use will be reported. Use lockers in the library to store belongings
  • No children are allowed in the Testing Center; they must be supervised at all times while on campus
  • Walk-in testing is available in Hale Laʻakea, Library Learning Commons, Room 228
  • Please note that the week before and during the final exam period are our busiest times, so please plan accordingly. Take your test early during the testing period; being waitlisted is a possibility during peak hours
