TRiO Student Support Services (TRiO SSS) is a federally funded program with the purpose of increasing retention, graduation, and transfer rates from two-year to four-year colleges/universities for low-income, first-generation, and/or disabled college students.

Our motto is T.H.E. “TRiO Helps Everybody” and our mantra is “TRiO for Life”!

Monday–Thursday: 7am–7pm
Friday: 7am–5pm
Saturday–Sunday: 7am–2pm

SERVICES

We offer the following services, FREE of charge, to students who qualify for TRiO SSS:

  • FREE lunch every day.
  • FREE Money Fridays workshops on how to apply for scholarships, FAFSA, and/or writing a personal statement. Do you want FREE money? TRiO SSS helps you navigate the Financial Aid/scholarship application process.
  • TRiO SSS Supplemental Grant Aid program to lessen your loan burden.
  • File your Federal and State Taxes for FREE as TRiO SSS is a Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Center.
  • Access to CashCourse. Learn about student loans, credit card debt, and general budgeting.
  • FREE Academic advising. Need help picking classes? Finding the engaging fun instructors? Make an appointment for advising with a TRiO SSS counselor.
  • Register for classes before the rest of campus. TRiO SSS participants are allowed to register before regular registration begins.
  • FREE summer math classes.
  • FREE tutoring available for your class(es).
  • FREE breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks 24/7 during finals week. There are also showers and places to rest your eyes.
  • Apple and Dell computers for your computing needs with FREE black and white and color printing.
  • A variety of study and gathering areas (indoors or outdoors, small rooms or large open areas that are quiet, noisy, and everything in-between.

ELIGIBILITY

To be eligible for TRiO SSS, you must be:

  • a US citizen
  • enrolled and accepted to Windward Community College

AND one of the following

  • receiving financial aid
  • a first-generation college student (i.e. neither of your parents completed a bachelor’s degree)
  • a student with a disability

Even if you don’t think you meet the criteria, come by and we’ll help.

  1. Complete and submit the online intake application form
  2. Schedule your intake appointment. To schedule an appointment, you can either:

RECEIVE TUTORING

To receive tutoring, fill out the TRiO SSS Virtual Tutoring Request Form. Once available, a TRiO SSS tutor will then reach out to you, to find a time that works best for both of you.

Hiring Requirements

  • Must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 credits in the University of Hawaii system
  • Earned an “A” or “B” in the course(s) you wish to tutor
  • Received certification from a teacher recommending you as a tutor for a particular course(s)
