Bamboo Ridge artist and authors featured at WCC library

 
 

Out Loud in the Library! at Windward Community College presents one visual artist and three writers from Bamboo Ridge on Thursday, November 8, 2018 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Hale La‘akea Library First Floor on the Windward Community College campus. The event is free and open to the public. 

Noe Tanigawa will present and discuss her art portfolio that appears in the 40th Anniversary issue of Bamboo Ridge: Issue #113. Tanigawa also designed the book’s cover. Writers Jeffrey Higa, Tamara Moan and Susan Soong will also read their work from the issue.

More about the featured artists:

Tamara Leiokanoe Moan is a writer and artist who lives in Kailua, O‘ahu. Her nonfiction has appeared in local and national magazines with her most recent work focusing on memoir and poetry. She teaches art at the Honolulu Museum of Art School and exhibits her work throughout Hawai‘i. 

Susan M. Soong received the James A. Vaughan Award for Poetry in 2008 and won First Place for Fiction and Poetry in the Lorrin Tarr Gill Writing Competition in 2012. Her most recent writing is inspired by her mother-in-law’s life in China.

Jeffrey J. Higa has been published in Zyzzyva, Sonora Review, and Bamboo Ridge.

Noe Tanigawa covers art and culture for Hawai‘i Public Radio. Her work has won an Edward R. Murrow Award from the Radio and Television News Directors' Association as well as awards from the Society of Professional Journalists Hawai'i Chapter, and the Los Angeles Press Club. Noe holds a master’s degree in painting from UH Mānoa and maintains an active painting practice.

Out Loud in the Library! is a literary and music event celebrating the rich intersection of words and music by local artists, and is meant to inspire and encourage students to find their own creative voice through writing, reading, poetry, music, spoken word, and the visual arts.
