Spring 2018 hacks for students

 

Here's a few hacks for you to get ahead and stay sane during the first part of the Spring 2018 semester.

Join us for a free brunch on Wednesday, January 10 and meet your ASUH-WCC student government representatives and other campus fellows at:

Ask questions about classes and register on the spot! To request an appointment after 3:30 p.m., please call 808-235-7325 or email jlewton@hawaii.edu.

Find your study space! Here are some options:

Library (Hale La‘akea)
1st floor (lower)

Some noise, cafe booths and rounds, great light, nice view, recycled wood benches
2nd floor (main entrance)
Noise and covered drinks allowed, study rooms for three or more, computers, check-out whiteboards, laptops, headphones, phone chargers, film & video cameras, plus The Hub Coffee shop!
Speech, Math and Writing labs are here, too!
3rd floor (upper)
Quiet zone, Hawaiian Room (quiet and beautiful), private study carrels with power

TRiO (Hale Kako‘o)
Computers inside, benches on the lanai, awesome tutors available

Language Arts (Hale Manaleo)
Peaceful lounge area

SAC (Student Activity Center, Hale ‘Ākoakoa, 2nd floor)
Quiet, leather couches, limited computers, nice peer mentors

Hale Pālanakila
Courtyard, lanai and lobby/second floors are great for studying

and of course, the Great Lawn!

POWER UP! Create a Master Syllabus

Get organized at the start of your semester. It's easy! Be guided through creating a "Master Syllabus" with your class syllabi and Google Calendar. Make Google Calendar work for you, and you can make the most of these skills:

Need some career guidance? We will help you create your Focus2Career account and complete self-assessment exercises to discover what great career options you may be best suited for. Through Focus2Career, you will gain skills in:

Learn how to interpret your self-assessment results in your Focus2Career account. This is super interesting and insightful! Get a head start on your life! (Note: Participants must have created an account and completed all self-assessments prior to attending.) You will get even more skills in:

YOGA (and more) with Sarah Hadmack
Every Thursday, 4:30–5:30 p.m.
Hale Kuhina 115 (Kailua end of campus)
FREE Restorative Yoga (gentle, relaxing) and Mindfulness Class (being present) for all faculty, staff and students. Bring a towel or yoga mat.

What is Service-Learning? It’s a chance to put your education to work in volunteer opportunities. It’s a Win-Win for students to learn more about different fields of work and for organizations who need you! Community organizations who serve our Windward community will be available to connect with students for Service-Learning opportunities.

We know you love it here at Windward. And, you have goals. Get familiar with exciting programs and representatives from the 4-Years: UH West Oahu, UH Manoa and UH Hilo, who can introduce and/or assist you with the transfer process. This event will be nothing less than enlightening, and may even help you reach your goals faster!

You work hard. You deserve a break. Did you know that there are lots of scholarships available if you apply and write a brief statement about your goals and financial need (where applicable). “I can’t get to class because I don’t have anyone to care for my child.” Sound familiar? Starting this year, Windward will be offering childcare in a loving, safe environment on campus (construction is happening now at the Kailua end of Hale ‘Ākoakoa).
WCC is proud to present the start of our childcare center application, interview and orientation process.
