Positive COVID-19 Case Reported on Campus – Aug 19

August 19, 2021

Aloha Windward CC community,

A campus community member who was last on campus on August 18, has
tested positive for COVID-19 and is self-isolating. One close contact
has been identified and notified through the contact tracing process,
which continues, and the Hawaii Department of Health has been notified.

One area on campus will be cleaned, as recommended by the Centers for
Disease Control and Prevention and UH COVID-19 guidelines.

No further details can be shared as the privacy of the individuals
involved must be respected. The campus is following all privacy and
confidentiality laws, including the Health Insurance Portability and
Accountability Act (HIPAA) and the Family Educational Rights and Privacy
Act (FERPA).

Anyone who tests positive for COVID-19 is not allowed to return to
campus until they are cleared by a medical provider, consistent with the
standards of DOH and the CDC.

All positive cases and suspected cases of COVID-19 should be reported to
Kelli Brandvold, Interim Vice Chancellor for Administrative Services.
She can be reached at 808-235-7403 or by email at kellib@hawaii.edu. The
information will be kept confidential. Information on reported positive
cases on UH campuses can be found at http://go.hawaii.edu/xy3.

It is imperative that everyone follows campus COVID-19 guidelines,
including:
o using the daily health check-in app LumiSight UH before coming to
campus or participating in campus-related activities
o staying home when you are sick or awaiting test results for COVID
-19

It is required that everyone on campus wear a face covering when indoors
and not in a room by yourself. Remember to practice safe physical
distancing and wash your hands often.

If you are able to get vaccinated and have not yet done so, this may be
the perfect time to consider protecting your health and the health of
those around you through vaccination. Here is a resource to help with
information about the vaccine and how to find a vaccination site near
you:

Stay healthy and be safe!

Mahalo for your vigilance,

Windward Community College
