Sandie has served with distinction as Office Assistant IV in the Media Center since 2006.
Sandie’s efforts and contributions to her unit and to the college have been instrumental in helping to promote a customer service ethos, campus morale boosting series of events, college and community service engagement, and a never-say-die commitment to the college’s legislative relations. She “…excels in her job and especially in developing rapport with the Media Center’s patrons…” according to her supervisor, Associate Professor Elizabeth Ratliff.
The chair of the screening committee asserts that, “Sandie also unselfishly gives to the campus by volunteering in so many areas outside of her normal duties and responsibilities.” She has an eye for what may be needed by the campus and a knack for bringing others together to satisfy those needs.
Campus morale has been improved by Sandie’s efforts to ensure the staging of the annual Christmas Party and other events such as Halloween soirees and Valentine’s Day Chocolate Potlucks. Volunteering her services as a History Day judge, or as an instrumental contributor to the Environmental Committee’s project to set up a worm composting facility to transform tons of Cafeteria and Media Center green-waste into compost for the Agriculture program, or chairing the Vendors Sub-Committee for the annual Ho‘olaule‘a are exemplars of her commitment to service. Moreover, she is known as a “… fun loving and energetic character (that) helps keep the WCC Ohana together.”
For all of the foregoing reasons Sandie Carmichael is our honoree for the Chancellor’s Award for Outstanding Service.
