SOC 250a: Community Forces in Hawai'i (3 credits)

Course Description

This course is designed to acquaint the student with sociological principles and the application of these principles to aid in the awareness, understanding, and appreciation of the unique social environment of the State of Hawaiâi. Fundamental concepts of sociology in the area of race relations are presented with emphasis on Hawaiâi's unique potential âmelting potâ social environment and the development of an âunorthodox race doctrineâ for Hawaiâi. Sociological aspects of the various cultural contributions by the ethnic groups to Hawaiâi including values, concepts, practices, history, and language are also investigated. (3 hours lecture)
