MUS 101: Music Sightreading (1 credit)

Course Description

Individualized computer-assisted instruction/practice in rhythmic sight reading, pitch notation, and ear training. Student will complete ten quizzes for each of the eight modules at either beginning or advanced level. Students taking Music 114, 121B, 122B, 121-122C, or 221-222C are encouraged to also register for MUS 101. Students progress through four levels (8 modules, 10 quizzes for each module) successively with the MusicLab Melody system. Four credits may be applied to the AA degree. (2 hours lecture/studio)

Student Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to:

  • Identify pitches played within an octave.
  • Identify notated pitches and match pitch names with sounded pitches.
  • Accurately repeat rhythms as played.
  • Play and sing from sight notated rhythms and melodic phrases.
