CAMPUS POLICY FOR DESIGNATED SMOKING AREAS

On August 1, 2015, Windward Community College implemented a policy that allows for six (6) Designated Smoking Areas. This policy results from the direct feedback received from many members of our community, as well as the comments that were posted on the Discussion Board and stated at the Open Forum. Each of the smoking areas will be equipped with a seat, a receptacle for cigarette butts, and a sign that designates that location as an area where smoking is allowed. All smoking should be kept within 20 feet of the “Designated Smoking Area” sign.

While E-Cigarette use will not be limited to the Designated Smoking Areas, they cannot be used within 20 feet of building entrances and exits, within 20 feet of windows and vents, or within 50 feet of designated pick-up or drop-off points on campus or the bus stop which is also on campus.

Another reminder will be sent and flyers will be disseminated one week before the new policy goes into effect and at the start of the Fall semester.  We thank you all in advance for your support and adherence to this new policy.
The six (6) Designated Smoking Areas will be located at:

  1. Grass area 20 feet from Aʻo White House
  2. Great Lawn under tree in back of Alakai
  3. Grass area between Palanakila Courtyard and Imaginarium
  4. Great Lawn in back of Kakoʻo
  5. Great Lawn in front of Naʻauao
  6. Grass area under tree near Iolani

Please refer to the smoking area map for locations.
