Curriculum for Veterinary Technology AS Degree

 

Picture of a pugThe Associate in Science in Veterinary Technology consists of five semesters of coursework. Students begin the degree track by enrolling in the Certificate of Achievement in Veterinary Assisting (VETA).

Enrollment to this part of the program has prerequisites of placement into ENG 100 and Math 101. Sufficient sections of classes will be offered so as to allow for up to 60 students to enroll in the certificate classes during each fall semester.

During the spring semester of the first year, students who have a GPA of 2.0 or higher in will be eligible to apply for formal admission to the Veterinary Technology (VETT) Program. The Veterinary Technology Program accepts 24 students per year on a competitive basis.


 

The required courses for the Certificate of Achievement in Veterinary Assisting are:

  • ANSC 140 - Introduction to Veterinary Technology
  • ANSC 142 - Anatomy and Physiology of Domestic Animals
  • ANSC 142L - Anatomy of Domestic Animals Laboratory
  • ANSC 151 - Clinical Laboratory Techniques
  • ANSC 151L - Clinical Laboratory Techniques Laboratory
  • ANSC 153- Companion Animal Nursing and Nutrition
  • ANSC 153L- Companion Animal Nursing Lab
  • ANSC 191 - Veterinary Office and Computer Skills
  • ENG 100 - Expository Writing
  • HLTH 125 - Medical Terminology or HLTH 110 - Survey of Medical Terminology (2 credits from KCC or LCC)
  • MATH 101 - Mathematics for Veterinary Assisting
  • PSY 100 - Survey of Psychology
  • SP 181 - Introduction to Interpersonal Communication or SP 151 - Personal and Public Speech
