One of the many dangerous elements in our environment is Lead (Pb). Lead is used in insecticides and in high-octane gasoline. The State Criteria for lead is 0.029 mg Pb/L. All of the Kapaa sites exceeded the State criteria. Contamination of lead in Kapaa may be present in the water from industrial waste disposal or landfill leakage. Cars illegally dumped nearby may also have had high-octane gasoline that seeped out.
