What Happens If You Do Not Make Satisfactory Academic Progress?
For more comprehensive information, please see the Academic Regulations section in the WCC Catalog
To make satisfactory academic progress at WCC, you need to keep your cumulative GPA at 2.0 or higher.
If you do not make satisfactory academic progress, a hold will automatically be placed on your MyUH registration account. You will not be able to access your registration until you attend a mandatory advising session and complete the online quiz on academic policy. You may also receive a phone call or an email at your hawaii.edu address.
It's important that you come in for help early! WCC's academic counselors can help you figure out where you stand, offer suggestions for managing school with your other responsibilities, and guide you in getting back on track to reaching your educational goals.
Remaining on the UAP (Unsatisfactory Academic Progress) list can ultimately lead to dismissal from Windward. Each step in the sequence of events is described below; these are called “Academic Actions.” Actions are taken at the end of Fall and Spring semesters (not summer).
1. WARNING action
The first time your cumulative GPA falls below 2.0 you’ll receive a WARNING letter. You are eligible to continue at WCC. You’ll need to raise your cumulative GPA to 2.0 by the end of your next semester, or be subject to PROBATION.
2. PROBATION action
Once warned, if you’re unable to raise your cumulative GPA to 2.0, you’ll be put on PROBATION. You are eligible to continue at WCC. While on PROBATION, you must earn a minimum semester GPA of 2.0 to remain in school. Hint: While on probation, a good rule to follow is to withdraw from any courses in which you are not earning a grade of C or better. You will remain on probation until your cumulative GPA is raised to 2.0 or higher.
3. SUSPENSION action
While on probation, if you are unable to earn a semester GPA of 2.0 or higher, you’ll be put on SUSPENSION.
Being suspended means that you take one semester off. Often times, students run into academic difficulty due to things outside of school: work, family, personal emergencies. The break gives you time to take care of those things and return when you’re able to make school a priority. You’ll need to turn in a new application for the semester of return, and you’ll be readmitted on probation.
4. DISMISSAL action
Upon return from suspension, you’ll be DISMISSED if you fail to meet the terms of probation. Being dismissed means that you will not be allowed to take classes at Windward again … ever.
But I don’t have time to see a counselor. What can I do to help myself?
