Star Poets
Welcome to Star Poets, a project of Windward Community College and the Hawai'i Council for the Humanities, with the support of the Windward Arts Council and the Atherton Family Foundation. Star Poets has been encouraging creativity and literacy in Hawai'i's schools by sponsoring an annual poetry contest since 1999. Winning students share their poems at an Award Ceremony and Reading in May, and both students and teachers receive cash prizes.
This year we are starting a new online teaching resource: Poetry Recess <http://starpoets.wordpress.com/> . We will feature essays and poetry related activities from poets and teachers every month, and we invite teachers to post comments. Hopefully this blog will provide a lively exchange for teachers across the state.
