Financial Aid Disbursement Procedures

How and when does my Financial Aid get disbursed to me?

  • Once you have completed all the necessary “unsatisfied requirements” and have “Accepted” your financial aid award(s), the WCC Financial Aid Office will disburse the fund(s) ten days prior to the start of the semester.  The Business Office/Cashier’s Office will then apply your financial aid towards your tuition and fees.  If your financial aid award(s) are more than the cost of your tuition and fees, the Business Office/Cashier’s Office will process a refund for you.  Refunds will take approximately two weeks (from the date the Financial Aid Office disburses the money) to get to you either by a paper refund check (sent through the regular mail) or via direct deposit (if you signed up for eRefunds through your MyUH Portal).  If you would like to sign up for eRefunds, please click on the following link for more information http://hawaii.edu/news/docs/eRefunds.pdf
  • For recipients of the Perkins Loan or SHEL loan, you must complete an Entrance Interview and Master Promissory Note (MPN) before the loan can be processed and disbursed to you.  Please visit the WCC Financial Aid Office to complete the Entrance Interview and MPN.
  • For recipients of the Federal Direct Subsidized Stafford Loan or the Federal Direct Unsubsidized Stafford Loan, a Direct Loan Entrance Counseling and/or Master Promissory Note (MPN) must be completed before the loan(s) can be processed and disbursed to you.  IMPORTANT:  If you are a first time Direct Loan Borrower at WCC, there is a mandatory 30-day hold on the first disbursement of your loan fund(s).  Please click on Federal Direct Student Loans for more information.

How Do I Check my Refund Status?

  • Log on to MyUH Portal
  • Click on the “View Charges/Make Payment” link.
  • Click on the “View My Account (charges and payments) for Each Term” link.
  • A “Refund” in the description column indicates the left over amount due to you after tuition and fees have been paid for.  Allow approximately one to two weeks (from the date the Refund was processed) before you receive the refund.
  • If you completed the WCC Dual Enrollment Form, please check your account balance through your MyUH Portal.  If there are any outstanding charges remaining for non-WCC classes, you must use your financial aid refund to pay off the balance.  Not all types of financial aid from WCC will pay for tuition at other UH Community Colleges.  Please click on Dual Enrollment for more information about WCC’s Dual Enrollment Policy (Word document).
