Gift/Receive; Everything is FREE
Participate in a Gifting Economy!
Neighbors with their ‘ohana come to give and gift, take and receive, browse, socialize, and express sincerity and gratitude! No buying, selling, bartering, or trading.
Similar to a Trunk-or-Treat, gifters pack their vehicles with items and offer them free from their trunks. Receivers visit the vehicles and take away what they want. You might find clothes, appliances, furniture, toys, books, decor, and craft supplies; the possibilities are endless!
Open to students, staff, faculty and their families, as well as community members. Gifters set up under the solar arrays. Receivers simply show up and park in uncovered stalls near Hale A‘o.
Bonus: you can be a gifter AND a receiver!
He ali’i ka ‘aina, he kauwa ke kanaka.
Caring for Hawaii and the planet.

Event Details
Two one-act plays inspired by classical Greek mythology.
Medea adapted by Tadashi Kerren, inspired by Euripides’ Medea
Antigone Now by Melissa Cooper, inspired by Sophocles’ Antigone
This new adaptation of Medea, based on the mythic character of the same name from Euripides’ classic tale, explores revenge and emotional responses to oppression. Medea sacrificed her family, her country, and her friends to help Jason become a great hero. Two children later, Jason leaves Medea for another woman, breaking his vows and standing by silently as she is cast out of the country she made her own. The story is told through flashbacks, and involves combat and humor while touching on issues of immigration.
Antigone Now by Melissa Cooper is inspired by Sophocles’ Antigone. An updated version of the myth of a woman who sacrifices her life to take action against an unjust law. Antigone considers the play between universal human rights and what can too often be arbitrary laws of society.

Event Details
Please join us for our third Spring presentation of “Short Reads: The Hawaiian Journal of History Author Series”. Our April presentation is a hana hou talk by Anita Manning on, “Hawaiʻi and The Great War”.
The Great War – now called World War I – began in Europe, but a pivotal event drawing in the United States also was personal to Hawaiʻi. April 1, 1917 the Germans sank the SS AZTEC, not a US Navy vessel, killing 6 Hawaiʻi crew members. The war would be in the community’s everyday life for the duration – in business, schools, the farm, the kitchen [yes, guava jelly], charity, and the bar!
Anita Manning is a historian and educator, with an extensive management background. She was involved in State’s World War I Centennial, has written on the history of Hawai’i science, Hawaiian history, and on museum management. Research topics include involvement of Hawai’i residents in the American Civil War, and a Boy Scout troop for children with Hansen’s Disease. She is Historian for the 120 year old Honolulu Elks Lodge.
The Hawaiian Historical Society, in partnership with Windward Community College Library, is hosting an in-person event series featuring presentations of historians of Hawaiʻi’s history.
