Welcome to Rainbows
You know you’re at Rainbows
when you hear sizzling
teri-burgers
and smell the oh-so-familiar shoyu-sugar mixed with
chicken
Rainbows, the only place where
sand somehow covers your feet;
where you call the
waitress “Aunty”
and where a little bit of
Old Hawaii remains.
The cement building with loose paint
and the rusted, ramshackle
sign yielding: Rainbows in dull
colors
takes us back before Waikiki.
We know the benches are old and dirty.
Who cares? It’s Hawai‘i
Just wipe the old gravy spots off and eat.
Rainbow Drive-In, where Old Hawai‘i
Vibes fill the air, and where Aloha is everywhere.
