A Wise Old Man
History spends his frail old days out on his porch
pondering how time has gone by
he has resigned himself from
attempting to keep up
with the world today
the children don’t like him
they prefer science, who is fresh
and exciting
History has his afternoon tea with English
and they talk, cryptic talks
regarding the lore of old
of Alexander the Great and
Shakespeare
Napoleon and Homer
But every so often a child,
a curious child
will defy the warnings of his
friends and sit down and talk with History
and delve into the depths of
experience that the old man has to offer
and that wise child
will find a love for History
that he never knew he had.
