A Picture

Laminated,

On the wall.

She was sleeping in the tractor cab,

Her head upon his lap,

Her body lying across

Across the shepherd’s blanket.

She slept a dreamless sleep

Her sweet, innocent face

Calmly waiting there,

For the dreadful heat of Kansas

To be over.
