Warm Satisfaction
The depressing dark rain clouds
block the sun
as I climbed up the stairs
after a chilly day.
I am greeted by the shrimpy smell of saimin broth.
“Do you want some?” Grandpa asks.
“Yes, please,” I answer in delight.
Anxiously I watch as Grandpa
places plump noodles in a large bowl
and drenches them
with hot shrimp and green-onion flavored broth.
I almost dance with excitement
as I witness the white and pink half-moon slices of kamaboko
and the saltiest strips of spam
float in the bowl.
I take my first sip of the scrumptious soup.
Ah!
I am overwhelmed with this warm satisfaction.
