Honorable
Mention
Sweet
Pinkilicious
My
tongue crawled out to sample
the
unfamiliar block of pink.
I
sucked my breath to the back of my throat,
And
I moved the flavors in my mouth
as
if to prepare myself in case I dropped dead from poison.
Oh,
wait, it’s sweet!
My
nose moved in from the smell
so
close, it poked the sticky edge.
It
stung my nose suffocating
imitation
strawberry flavors- I loved it.
As
I thoroughly wasted away in the chewy blob
that
flipped from side to side in my mouth.
I
could hear my mom’s stern voice
her
English leaking Chinese words
as
she banned the very thing my teeth bit.
I
continuously moved my mouth up and down,
finding
the stiff substance molding with my tongue.
In
the distance, the figure from my mind came into sight.
I
gulped, taking my gum down with me,
to
be hidden like a fallen pirate ship into the depths of the ocean.
