confusing name,
The
name that reminds my parents and their friends
that
they are all proud to be Hawaiian,
and
reminds them of the year and month I was born,
the
anniversary of Hawai‘i’s annexation.
Ulu
is my nickname,
My
easy name for many,
the
name that I call myself,
the
name that many people mispronounce.
My
comfort name.
