Empty
Walkway
Standing
there, the two of us.
A
light breeze carries her flowery scent,
And
flows through me.
Both
awkwardly carrying out books and backpacks,
Eyes
looking down, hiding behind nervous smiles.
The
walkway is deserted, just the two of us.
I
ask her a question,
that
took me many hours to mentally prepare for.
The
outcome would lead us to becoming closer
Or
farther apart.
She
smiles,
An
uneasy one.
I’m
afraid the loud pounding of my heart would fill
The
empty sound of the walkway.
She
says she needs to think about it.
She
turns and leaves, trying not to glance back.
In
a way she has given me her answer
My
body is cold, my legs frozen.
Head
hanging, I force myself to move
In
the opposite direction.
