Directives

NAME: Department Personnel Committee - Screening & Hiring (DPC). (originally named, Personnel Screening Committee)

CHARGE: To establish guidelines and campus procedures for hiring of faculty for the selected advisory personnel screening committees for WCC.

LINE OF AUTHORITY / LEADERSHIP: DPCommittee directly reports to Dean of Instruction. Dean of Instruction appoints Department of Personnel Committee members. DPCommittee elects a chairperson. DPCommittee Chairperson meets with EEO/AA Coordinator (reviews/oversees advertisement; confidentiality/record keeping requirements; master list of applicants; guidelines for writing of interview questions.) DPCommittee conducts SCREENING AND HIRING of applicants. Dean of Instruction reviews the DPCommittee's recommendation. Dean of Instruction then makes a recommendation to the Chancellor on filling the advertised position. FINAL DECISION made by Chancellor of Windward Community College.

COMPENSATION FOR SERVICE: None

MEMBERSHIP AND TERM OF SERVICE: No policy/procedure exists for selecting members on DPCommittee or membership composition. Dean of Instruction appoints committee members. Term of Service: a few months or until faculty is hired.

DECISION NATURE: Advisory (ad hoc) DECISION-MAKING PROTOCOL: DPC: WCC Policy Guideline No. 4-20 (September 21, 1990; Revised 08/01/95) Windward Community College-Academic Affairs- CHECKLIST FOR AD HOC ADVISORY PERSONNEL SCREENING COMMITTEE (renamed Department Personnel Committee-Screening and Hiring). EEO/AA Coordinator must review/approve screening and hiring practices. Contact: Office of the Chancellor or Office of Human Resources, Personnel Officer).

DOCUMENTATION: DPCommittee Chairperson is responsible for record keeping requirements which is reviewed/approved by the EEO/AA Coordinator. DPCommittee Chairperson reports the committee's recommendations to the Dean of Instruction in a memorandum and meet with the Dean of Instruction to give an oral report on the findings.

TERMINATION DATE: ad hoc: a few months or until the hiring of faculty.
