The ‘Ao Kahi Native Hawaiian Career and Technical Education project offers up to 100 percent financial support, and assistance with internships and job placement. Priority is given to Native Hawaiian students to obtain recognized postsecondary credentials and hands-on learning in:

  • Information Security Certificate of Competence
    ‘Ao Kahi offers free cybersecurity classes and covers exam fees, study materials and workshops for Native Hawaiian students and anyone interested, to earn professional cybersecurity certifications beyond the classroom.
  • Sustainable Agriculture
    ‘Ao Kahi project covers Windward CC student tuition toward agriculture career pathways. Sustainable agriculture students can enroll to receive career readiness support, textbook loans, digital access to learning platforms a 40-hour paid internship, professional development, and much more.

The ‘Ao Kahi project engages students with career readiness, serves as a Native Hawaiian Career and Technical Education project sponsored by ALU LIKE, Inc., and is funded by a U.S. Department of Education grant.

Eligibility

To be eligible for free classes and support, students must have a minimum 2.0. GPA* and register and attend select classes at Windward CC. Priority is given to Native Hawaiian** students.

* Minimum 2.0 GPA can be from high school or community college
** Proof of Native Hawaiian ancestry can be verified by birth certificate, Hawaiian registry card, or a verification letter from Kamehameha Schools, Department of Hawaiian Home Lands, or Hawai‘i State Department of Health.

Certificate of Competence in Information Security

Upgrade your skills for a better paying job in cybersecurity. Earn an Information Security Specialist certificate to prepare you for entry-level positions in the field of cybersecurity with a focus on networking, computer security, ethical hacking, and computer forensics.

Required online courses:

ICS 171 – Introduction to Computer Security (3 credits)
ICS 184 – Introduction to Networking (3 credits)
ICS 281 – Ethical Hacking (3 credits)
ICS 282 – Computer Forensics (3 credits)

Career and internship advising begins upon registration. Internship and job placement assistance starts after completion of ICS 171. Students can receive a 40-hour internship on campus or with a business organization.

A great option for students interested in any major, providing valuable personal and professional skills.

Sustainable Agriculture

Windward Community College is sowing the seeds for agriculture careers offering free tuition for Native Hawaiian students and anyone interested in this field of study.

Eligible Classes

AG 120 – Plant Science (3 credits)
AG 202 – Agriculture, Environment, and Society (3 credits)
AG 202L – Agriculture, Environment, and Society Lab (1 credit)

Through hands-on learning in labs, students will learn how to:

  • Grow plants native to Hawai‘i
  • Grow vegetables and herbs through hydroponic systems
  • Grow algae
  • Graft fruit trees
  • Prepare food from plants sourced from Hawai‘i, such as ulu and coconut
